Each fall, Austin artist and musician Colleen Gugan opens her backyard and art studio to the public for an evening to host “Backyard Art @ the G-Spot”, an intimate celebration of local art and music, rooted firmly in the “Keep Austin Weird” ethos.
Starting at 5:00 p.m., as the first day of the East Austin Studio Tour winds down, “Backyard Art @ the G-Spot” serves as the unofficial 2010 E.A.S.T after-party—an art crawl with all of the art and none of the crawl, just west of I-35.
Ms. Gugan started “Backyard Art @ the G-Spot” five years ago out of a strong desire to give exposure to both established and emerging talent in a nurturing, inspiring and relaxed environment. Those who have attended this show in years past have enjoyed an eclectic mix of visual arts in a wide variety of media including drawing, film, mixed media, painting, performance art, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.
Fuzzy Portal Unlimited is an all-volunteer, artist-run collective headed by Ms. Gugan. Backyard Art @ The G-Spot is celebrating its sixth anniversary this year.
